For students in our 2-week camp Olympus:   Auditions vs. Casting Conversations

---- AUDITIONS for the parts of Aphrodite, Ares, Zeus, or Hero:   Any students aged 12-14 (and those 10-11 who feel exceptionally advanced in musical theater) who are interested in being considered for these four largest parts in the play (which might be split up) need to have an audition in person; see dates and times below.   Auditions consist of

  • The student singing a song (30-60 seconds). Any song choice is fine, but it would be best for it to reflect their talent and range of expression and vocal pitch. Acapella is fine, but if a student has recorded back-up music that is fine as well.
  • The student preparing a short monologue OR doing a cold read from the Olympus script. Monologues should be 20-45 seconds long and memorized. AN UNMEMORIZED MONOLOGUE IS A SURE WAY TO SEND A SIGNAL THAT A STUDENT IS NOT COMMITTED TO DOING THE WORK THAT A LEAD ROLE IN OLYMPUS WILL REQUIRE.
We highly recommend the student preparing a monologue (which can be from Olympus) rather than doing a cold read. Even veteran actors can have challenges bringing emotion and expression to a cold read, and since we are looking for a picture of the student's acting talents in the monologue, most cold reads don't show that well.
  • Us having a ~5 minute conversation about the students' interests in the various characters, any gender preferences in casting, etc.
  • A singing range test from their lowest to highest notes

----  CASTING CONVERSATIONS  for any individual parts in Olympus and any that involve solo or duet singing.  Any students 10-14 (and occasional 9-year olds who are feeling spunky) are welcome to have a 5-10 minute phone conversation letting us know their preferences and hopes for casting (big/medium/small, solo singing or no, gender preferences if any, etc.). If they are interested in being considered for a part that has any solo or duet singing, please have the student prepare a ~30 second song of their choice  (acapella singing is fine).
For medium roles, first consideration goes to those aged 12-14. However, we only cast folks in these challenging roles who we feel are the best fit and we feel convinced will do the work needed before and during camp for a successful performance.

How do we sign up?

To sign up for a lead phone conversation slot, please email with your top three (3) lead slot time preferences, in order, and the best phone number at which to call your child that day. We will schedule your child accordingly and send you a confirmation email with the time we will be doing.

This schedule will be updated once a day.

Please try to find a time among those listed here. If for some reason it is impossible to find a compatible phone time with one listed here (and we are not using the term 'impossible' lightly), send us a line so we can try to find an alternate time.

Times listed are Eastern Standard Time.
