Message from Inspirations Camp Director Torsti Rovainen for 2019 camps

This year we explore both darkness and light in our musical The Sultan, the Secret, and the Witch (formerly titled The Boy Who Kept A Secret, and slightly revised from the 2015 version). I look forward to what your student brings to the camp and to the final performances this time around. Whether this is their second or sixth experience with us, it should be quite a ride!

2019 camp dates & times

  • Portland Camp (age 7 - 11) July 1 - 5 (or July 1-3, 5) 9:00 - 1:15 aftercare possible to 3:00

  • Portland Camp (age 8 - 14) July 8 - 27 9:00 - 2:30 aftercare possible to 4:30

  • Portland High School Theater (age 14 - 18) July 1 - 3, 8 - 12, 15 - 20

  • Vermont Camp (age 8 - 14) August 5 - 17** 9:00 - 2:30
    **(Vermont Camp addition if child aged 12-14 chosen as lead) July 31 -August 2 9:00 - 2:30)

  • Wisconsin Camp (age 8 - 14) June 10 - 22 9:00 - 2:30


 The 2-Step enrollment Process

STEP 1:  Check in with your child on their theatrical preferences (gender, and for older students, type of part sought for) for this coming year. Questions such as being asked to be considered for a lead role (Age 12-14), or which gender a child prefers or is open to for casting should be figured out, either with that child or within the family, before you enroll. We ask this because once we have your child's information and the casting is set, it is very challenging to rearrange things should your child's wishes be different than what came in the enrollment form; and for continuity, in almost all cases we stick with the initial casting.
                

STEP 2:  Fill out the enrollment form below, using the 'Additional Comments' section if there are any changes to your contact information. 

       **Medical form updates--if the information on your medical & pick-up authorization are the same as previous years, you needn't fill out a new form. If there is a small change, you can email that to us; if insurance policies, addresses or such have changed, please fill out a new form.

Once these two steps have happened, and assuming the tuition agreement is in place, your child will be officially enrolled in Inspirations Camps.

— you GET $50 off your tuition and you can give that incoming a certificate for $50 off their tuition** (up to two families)

**limit two $50 certificates per returning family for up to $100 off for you.

How it works: if you’re the link in welcoming someone new to register, once you’ve enrolled, send us an email, letting us know their name; and once they’ve registered, we’ll send you and them the $50 certificates. It's a way of welcoming in new families while thanking our returning families for your continued patronage.

We realize this might mean putting aside other purchases or opportunities for your child, if you do so; but to continue to be able to offer this camp, we ask each household to find a way to contribute.

* Casting: Gender Preferences *
At Inspirations Theater we respect the child's / families wishes for the gender(s) children play onstage. Please indicate your child's preference below (if no preference or it doesn't matter, please mark 'cast as any gender onstage') If you have any other casting considerations, please send those to us in an email after registering.
Is your child interested in being considered for a lead role (age limits above)? 90% of lead parts require solo singing. Lead casting is done in late April and early May in person or by phone. Please mark Yes (my child would like being considered for a lead role), No (my child would prefer group roles or smaller parts), or See Comments if more explanation is needed. You can explain in the 'Additional Comments' section, and if we need clarification we will call you.
Would your child aged 10-14 like to be considered to play an understudy for one of the ~11 larger lead parts in Midsummer Night's Dream? Understudies fill in for students cast in those lead roles should the leads be sick or absent at the performances. Understudies need to memorize that character's songs, and either be able to read that character's lines quickly from a script onstage or memorize the lines. Being considered for an understudy role does not affect a child's chances of being cast in a lead role in the play.
Lighting
In our 3-week Oregon camp and Vermont camp, two students play both a role onstage and help out with lighting for part of the show. These roles are for students aged 11 and up. For lighting, students need to have an interview with the Director to be considered. Not all students interested in lighting will be selected for that role.
Orchestra
For our 3-week Oregon camp, Vermont camp, and Oregon high school production, in addition to their role(s) onstage, students can play in our orchestra. Orchestra students need to be able to read sheet music at an intermediate level and play comfortably in at least seven key signatures.
Our Oregon camp days end at either 2:30 (3-week camp) or 1:15 (July 1-5 camp). For parents with schedules that make those pick-up challenging, we offer aftercare for $8 an hour / $15 a day from the end of the camp day to as late as 3:00 (July 1-5 camp) or 4:30 (July 8 - 27 camp). Do you anticipate needing aftercare on a regular basis?
I have read and understand the camp Electronics Policy, and will have my child abide by this policy throughout his/her time at camp [link to policy at bottom of webpage; policy is different for high school production]

NOTE: IF THERE IS NO NEW INFORMATION FROM THE FORM YOU FILLED OUT FOR CAMP BEFORE, YOU NEED NOT FILL OUT A NEW MEDICAL FORM.

If you are filling out a new medical form, you can bring it with you on the first day of camp.  We can not have children at camp who do not have a medical form on file.
 

Camp contributions   

Please click the button to the right to go to our financial page, which has an online payment link and information for paying by check. PLEASE DO NOT CLICK ON THIS BUTTON IF YOU ARE STILL IN THE MIDDLE OF FILLING OUT YOUR RE-ENROLLMENT ABOVE--you will lose everything that you've filled out. Only once you've seen the message "Enrollment has been received" at the bottom of the space the enrollment questions was (white text on black) you are safe to go.
