Message from Inspirations Camp Director Torsti Rovainen for 2018 camps

I'm excited to welcome back students for another season of summer musical theater camp--for some, their third, fourth, even fifth season with us. We highly value the experience and the enthusiasm that returning campers bring, and look forward to both the camp experience and the shows we create together this year.

Well wishes, and we'll look forward to seeing everyone soon!

Torsti Rovainen

For Our 2018 Camps--a few changes

We also wanted to let you know about some of the changes and updates for this year's camps.

  • At our Oregon 3-week camp and our Vermont camp, for the first time we are offering an optional pocket show experience.
Every child in camp will be cast in our longer show A Midsummer Night's Dream, with lead parts going to those aged 12-14, and this show till be our main focus at camp. On top of that, if any children wish, they can also take part in a shortened version of The Princess and the Pauper, with lead parts in that show being offered to children aged 10-11. This is designed to give those kids (especially younger ones) with large dramatic appetites a chance to sink their teeth into larger roles (though all students in camp can take part in the pocket show, should they wish). More about the pocket show here

  • 9:00 - 2:30 schedule for all camps (except our July 2-6 camp). In 2017 we experimented with a shorter camp day ending at 1:15. While this worked well for our focus, we weren't able to offer as many electives for the kids or to have afternoon rehearsals when we needed them.

  • Tuition prices at our camps have been adjusted accordingly to reflect this longer day spent with the kids.

  • Our 3-week Oregon camp is also two days longer than in 2017 (we had started on a Wednesday rather than Monday), which also affects tuition in 2018

The 2-Step enrollment Process

STEP 1:  Check in with your child on their theatrical preferences (gender, and for older students, type of part sought for) for this coming year. Questions such as being asked to be considered for a lead role (Age 12-14), or which gender a child prefers or is open to for casting should be figured out, either with that child or within the family, before you enroll. We ask this because once we have your child's information and the casting is set, it is very challenging to rearrange things should your child's wishes be different than what came in the enrollment form; and for continuity, in almost all cases we stick with the initial casting.

STEP 2:  Fill out the enrollment form below, using the 'Additional Comments' section if there are any changes to your contact information.

**Medical form updates--if the information on your medical & pick-up authorization are the same as previous years, you needn't fill out a new form. If there is a small change, you can email that to us; if insurance policies, addresses or such have changed, please fill out a new form.

Once these two steps have happened, and assuming the tuition agreement is in place, your child will be officially enrolled in Inspirations Camps.

When you enroll your child, we will send you via pdf. a $75.00 tuition deduction certificate that you can give to  newly enrolling family of your choice, should you wish. It's a way of welcoming in new families while thanking our returning families for your continued patronage.

If you have any questions about enrollment or the form below, please contact us at 503 - 895 - 4705 or

(To our families enrolling multiple children, please bear with us with by filling out this form multiple times. We experimented with a few other models but they were either not space-efficient or involved a hornet's nest of sub-auxiliary clicks and bubble window pop-up pages; when it was all said and done, it seemed like it would actually take less time just to fill this out 2+ times than to go through all that)

** When filling out this form press 'Tab' or click on the next box to proceed; hitting 'return' will cause the form to submit prematurely.

If you are applying to be considered for a scholarship, we ask you to have read this page first, which describes our tuition structure and scholarship considerations [Open in new window so as to not lose the enrollment information you have already put in] FYI during any scholarship conversation that we have, Inspirations Camp will ask you if you can put $10-20 a week aside that can go towards camp tuition. We realize this might mean putting aside other purchases or opportunities for your child, if you do so; but to continue to be able to offer this camp, we ask each household to find a way to contribute.
* Your payment will arrive at Inspirations Theater (payment link and info below) *
Would you be interested in getting involved with some aspect of the camp? You can check out possibilities from outreach to ushering to sets / costumes at this link
* Casting: Gender Preferences *
At Inspirations Theater we are open to casting anyone in any gender onstage that they wish. Please indicate your child's preference below (if no preference or it doesn't matter, please mark 'cast as any gender onstage') If you have any other casting considerations, please send those to us in an email after registering.
This is an option for those kids that just can't get enough theater, and especially 10-11 year olds who would like to be considered for bigger roles that aren't available to them in the longer show. In addition to our full-length show Midsummer Night's Dream, for which every child will have an individual or group part, students of any age can take part in an optional ~45-minute show The Princess and the Pauper. We rehearse for this show during the afternoon elective period--students in this show will rehearse likely 2-3 times a week, and be able to take electives the other days (leads likely rehearse 4 afternoons a week). 10-11 year olds are cast as leads for this show, and 8-9 and 12-14 year-olds have supporting parts.
Pocket Show Script / Music Preference: if you put 'Yes' for your child taking part in the pocket show, please list your script and music preferences
Is your child interested in being considered for a lead role (age limits above)? 90% of lead parts require solo singing. Lead casting is done in late April and early May in person or by phone. Please mark Yes (my child would like being considered for a lead role), No (my child would prefer group roles or smaller parts), or See Comments if more explanation is needed. You can explain in the 'Additional Comments' section, and if we need clarification we will call you.
Would your child aged 10-14 like to be considered to play an understudy for one of the ~11 larger lead parts in Midsummer Night's Dream? Understudies fill in for students cast in those lead roles should the leads be sick or absent at the performances. Understudies need to memorize that character's songs, and either be able to read that character's lines quickly from a script onstage or memorize the lines. Being considered for an understudy role does not affect a child's chances of being cast in a lead role in the play.
Orchestra / Lighting
In our 3-week Oregon camp two students play both a role onstage and help out with either lighting or play in the orchestra for part of the show. These roles are for students aged 11 and up (though we're open to the occasional prodigy on the orchestra side). For orchestra, students need to be able to read sheet music and play at an intermediate level in at least 7 different keys. For lighting, students need to have an interview with the Director to be considered.
Our Oregon camp days end at either 2:30 (3-week camp and Cornelius camp) or 1:15 (July 2-6 camp). For parents with schedules that make those pick-up challenging, we offer aftercare for $8 an hour / $15 a day from the end of the camp day to as late as 3:30 (July 2-6 camp) 4:30 (July 9 - 28 camp) or 5:00 (June 25-29 camp). Do you anticipate needing aftercare on a regular basis?
I have read and understand the camp Electronics Policy, and will have my child abide by this policy throughout his/her time at camp [link to policy at bottom of webpage]
I affirm that I have had any questions answered that I need to about camp via this website or camp staff; I will either be paying my tuition in the range listed within one week of registration or on the first day of camp (unless Inspirations Theater and I come to a mutual written agreement of another arrangement).

** Before proceeding, leaving this page, or clicking any of the buttons below, make sure you pressed the black 'submit' button above. If successful, the form will have disappeared and a small confirmation message taken its place **

If you are filling out a new medical form, you can bring it with you on the first day of camp.  We can not have children at camp who do not have a medical form on file.
