CASTING AND PARTS INFORMATION FOR OLYMPUS
(GRADES 5 - 8 LEAD AUDITION SIGN-UP TIMES AT BOTTOM OF PAGE)

I) For the Combined School Performance on Sunday November 25th:

1) EVERYONE is cast in 3 scenes:

— the opening number Olympus as a Olympian or a Titan (their pick), unless they’re cast as a lead in that song
PWS, Cedarwood, Micha-el: Olympians 1 or Titans 1
PVS, Swallowtail: Olympians 2 or Titans 2
ALL students (save Hades himself) will transition in the song Olympus to become Servants of Hades and sing those parts
— The two songs We Need A Bride and Slap On A Sash
PWS, Cedarwood, Micha-el: Olympians 1
PVS, Swallowtail: Olympians 2
— The final fight scene XIV, either as Olympians or Titans, as they played in Olympus

  • GRADES 1 - 3 are also cast as Undersea Creatures in Scene IVA, singing the song What In The World Is This?
(grades 4 - 8 can take part in this song as an option)

2) everyone has the option to be cast in 2 scenes (one or both), if they wish:

— As strange creatures in Scene III the Graeae’s lair, and sing the Chorus parts in the song The Graeae
— As Charon’s Minions in Scene XII the River Styx, singing the Minion part in The Other Side

3) students grades 5 - 8 have the option to be considered for larger parts in the combined show via a 5-10 minute phone audition, by sign-up

Auditions will happen Saturday October 20th between 9 am and 3 pm. If the part has any solo or duet singing, students will prepare to sing a 30-45 second song of their choice prior to the audition.
Information on parts and the sign-up sheet can be found by scrolling further down this page.

For the Mini-shows at each School:

1) everyone will play an olympian in two songs (unless they are cast as leads)

— The two songs are We Need A Bride and Slap On A Sash. We will decided at each school who sings Olympian 1 and Olympian 2.

2) grades 4 and up can request to be considered for larger parts in the following scenes and songs, to be performed at each school on that school’s final club session

— Depending on the club size and interest at each school, our mini-performance will either be

  • The two songs We Need A Bride and Slap On A Sash, and the song The Graeae

  • These three songs plus a few additional scenes or songs

The parts assignments for the school-specific sessions will be discussed in class the 2nd week of the club, and students interested in being considered for larger parts will get to write their choices / preferences on paper.

Lead and Individual Parts in Olympus for the Combined Show November 25
(Grades 5 and Up)

The listings below show

  • the relative size of the spoken part for that character: small, medium, or large (S, M, L)

  • The number of songs

  • Whether the songs are solo, duet, or group.

  • A little bit about each character

  • The gender on stage of the character, or whether that is flexible. For the casting, any child can be considered to play any gender, should they wish

**Note: In Rovainen Musicals productions, students can play or audition for characters of any gender they wish—for example, a male could audition for Aphrodite and a female for Ares. However, regardless of gender one's singing range does influence the casting for lead roles (though we can bring songs down or up an octave depending on one's gender and vocal range).
